Founder story

OUR MISSION IS TO USE FITNESS AS THE GATEWAY TO CONNECT AND CHANGE PEOPLE’S LIVES.

We understand that people connect with stories, and joining anything new can be intimating, let alone a fitness program. Who are the people I am going to be trained by? Are they going to be super intense and inconsiderate? Because we know scary people exist in the fitness world… Are they going to be encouraging and care about me personally? How hardcore are they? What are their roots? What do they believe in? What kind of sea of people am I going to be stepping into? We get it, but don’t worry, our culture is intentional and kind.

OUR PASSION FOR FITNESS HAS BEEN LONG STANDING.

Having started off with Endurance racing, and moving into the CrossFit world to get stronger, we learned what works, and what doesn’t. So as life and kids came into the picture, our goal clarified into a simple mission: teach busy people how to make it all work. You know… how to build habits that fit into your lifestyle, to show you that IT IS possible to put yourself, your health, your nutrition and all those things onto the FIRST burner.

But more importantly, we passionately desire to change people’s lives. We’re a high- energy, visionary and motivated husband and wife team. Yep – fitness is the avenue we’ve chosen, but if we owned a car dealership or a coffee shop or a food truck, our mission would be the same. We believe fitness can be the gateway to connect and change people’s lives. Will you join us in helping Green Bay become the fittest, healthiest community – in more ways than one?

ABOUT US

Courtney is a Jesus girl, a wife, a mom, a friend, the world’s best hugger (she’ll give you one if you need it) and lights up the room. After getting into endurance racing, she found herself completely worn out by one of her marathon trainings, that’s when the lightbulb came on and CrossFit entered the scene. Lifting weights, running, biking, chasing children, throwing them in the air. It completely changed her life and her perspective on fitness. It has meshed her athletic lifestyle with being able to keep up life, and her three busy boys. “For real…I cannot imagine how people who don’t lift weights are able to keep up with their kids!”

Chase Ford is a former United States Marine and served with 2nd Battalion 8th Marines in Weapons Company (CAAT-Bravo, MAP2, and Scout Snipers). We know people jive with military veterans and we want to emphasize this is a huge part of who we are (shameless plug that we do work with HOOAH WI to get Veterans in One Shot for free!). To escape the chaos of the battlefield overseas and post deployment, fitness became a method of coping.

Courtney and Chase met in San Diego, CA through a local gym as they both trained for a swim and lifting competition. Chase offered Court competitive swim lessons and that was enough to reel her in! They trained, ate sushi, watched an episode of Hoarders (oh my gosh… have you ever seen that show?! Don’t.), watched the red tide on the beach – and they were just friends. (Wait– didn’t see that curve ball.)

Chase moved to Hawaii. Court stayed in San Diego. And after lots of Skype chats (yes, we’re stone age…) and flirting long-distance, they decided this whole “friend thing” wasn’t really for them. THEY HAD TO BE TOGETHER. Court took the dive to move to Hawaii.

Together, they tried to open a gym two times in Hawaii, but it wasn’t working out, so they bought $3,000 worth of equipment and hauled it around in their Nissan to multiple different parks each night. They ran into multiple different park permit hold ups, daylight savings, little league football coaches. It was a mess, but they made it work.

When Court tore her ACL in Hawaii, and needed to get surgery and go through rehab, they decided to move to Wisconsin for the next year to plan their wedding.

One year later, we got the ultra-quick go ahead to open a gym in Wisconsin, finally!

Eleven years later and counting, we are still living out our dream. We’ve changed our location, and our vision has evolved, but OUR MISSION has always remained the same – WE ARE HERE TO USE FITNESS AS THE GATEWAY TO CONNECT AND CHANGE PEOPLE’S LIVES.

Now you got to know us, but we want to get to know YOU!

SO, ARE YOU IN?

I’m In!

COURTNEY FORD

Owner / Coach

Since 2011, my focus has been working on the floor coaching and dedicating my time to inspire and motivate the everyday person. I’ve led large groups of Bootcamp, Strength & Conditioning, CrossFit and Private Programs–and my main mission to to get people to move for the longevity and to do cool things outside our 4 walls. My goal is for each member to walk out of the gym with confidence and pride on their fitness performance. If I can make it the best hour of their day, put a smile on their face and challenge them to be their best? I’ve done my job. More recent, I’ve been upping the ante and transitioning my role to growing our business and allowing our coaching staff to serve our product on the floor. Really excited for this transition and look forward to seeing One Shot grow to its full potential with all my hands on deck!

My first CrossFit workout was Murph during active duty in the Marine Corps on my second deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. From there I began consistently training functionally, though I do still enjoy the bicep and tricep days. I began coaching in 2013 and continued on and off since then. Since the Marine Corps days I have worked for Rolls Royce, Nestle, and CrossFit HQ as the head of partnerships. I went to college for engineering and business followed by law enfo/homeland security. Fitness has been a staple in my life for many years. I have coached and trained with the highest level professionals in the CrossFit world to the highest performing members of the special operations community, as well as wounded veterans, adaptive athletes, seniors, and youth, it is clear that our needs differ by degree and not kind. I am currently a federal agent and that is what luckily brought us to Green Bay. I married my wife Kristin in March of 2018 shortly after meeting her… in fifth grade. We have three beautiful girls Faye, Charlie, and Josie. As I write this Josie is one week old. I look forward to learning from and sweating with everyone at One Shot and I am hopeful to tackle some fun things outside of the gym as well.

In 2018, I decided to change the emphasis of my training to a sport that I now compete in nationally, Olympic Weightlifting. As I pursued my degree at Carroll University in Exercise Science, I joined the Milwaukee Barbell Club. I have been competing for 4 years now with them, and have used that knowledge and experience to help teach/educate other athletes via Crossfit, personal training, remote programming, etc. I have continued my education after college through various certifications such as my USA Weightlifting Level 1 and NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, and look forward to expanding my knowledge even more. I hope to continue this passion of mine through the opportunity I have received to coach at CrossFit One Shot.

Coach / Physical Therapist

I have worked as a physical therapist since 2011. Throughout the early years of my career I always felt like I was missing something with the assessment and treatment of my clients. When I found CrossFit in 2017 I felt that it really represented everything that I wanted my clients to be able to do, no matter their fitness level. It was the perfect blend of strength, skill, mobility, and energy systems. I fell in love with the methodology and the sense of community that comes with suffering through difficult workouts with everyone. I have seen CrossFit change people’s lives for the better, including my own, and help them become better spouses, friends, and parents. As a coach, I hope to bring my background in healthcare and my love for helping people together to support the members of this gym as they maximize their fitness potential.

Over the last 20 years I have been at various stages of my fitness journey. One thing that was always the same was consistency. I have gone through the different styles of working out whether it be cardio, training to run a half marathon, lifting weights in a conventional gym or even at home in front of my TV to aerobic style workouts. When I found CrossFit it was right here with Court and Chase, at One Shot before they even had mats on the floor almost 10 years ago, and it took all of one class to get me hooked. The community, the coaching and the style of workout, was all something I had never experienced before. Constantly varied functional movements at high intensity. My love for CrossFit led to eventually obtaining my CrossFit L1 coaching certificate. First to dig deeper into the science behind the why and the how. And also so I could be better educated to teach my kids. This has finally lead me back to coaching where it all started. I realized in this thing that we call life it was okay to put my health and fitness on the front line in order to be the best I possibly could be for my family. And knew I wanted to inspire and help others do the same. My passion for wanting to help others be the best form of themselves has also spilled over into fulfilling my dream of being a firefighter. I proudly serve the Village of Suamico as a paid on call Firefighter/Engineer and soon to be Emergency Medical Responder. Everything I do inside the 4 walls of the gym has a purpose for the things I do outside of the gym.

As a Coach at One Shot, it’s an honor and privilege to be able to train people and help them become the best versions of themselves through fitness. I have a deep passion for fitness and CrossFit in specific because of what it’s done for me in my personal life, what I’ve seen in doing in our members lives and how it prepares you for life outside the bay door. My full time job is as an Automotive Technician, fixing cars and trucks, and CrossFit definitely helps me outside of the gym everyday I go do my job. I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2014, and coaching in some capacity here since 2015. I’m thankful for this gym and community every single day. It’s my ultimate goal to help our athletes become better and more effective in everything they do in an out of the gym through my expertise and experience.

I started working as a physical therapist assistant in 2018 with a passion for health and wellness. I thoroughly enjoy assisting others in reducing pain, weakness, and injuries, to help bring back their desired level of health and wellness. My fitness journey began in 2010 where I started with traditional strength training. I was exposed to CrossFit in 2022 and fell in love with the movements and methods instantly. As a CrossFit Level 1 coach I am committed to helping people achieve their fitness goals and lead healthier lives. I am able to blend the principles of rehabilitation and functional fitness to empower others on their journey to optimal health. Outside of CrossFit, I have been married to my wife Katie for two years, but met senior year high school. We recently welcomed our baby girl Tauryn into the world in September of 2023!

I can remember my first CrossFit workout in 2013 and at the time I had no idea the positive impact that it would have on every aspect of my life. CrossFit has changed the way that I look at challenges outside of the gym, it has fostered amazing relationships near and far and brings a smile to my face every time class starts. I am grateful to have the opportunity to coach others and be just a small part in their journey. My goal is to help people realize they are capable of much more than may think, both inside and outside of the gym walls.

Coach / PRE AND POSTNATAL

I started weightlifting consistently in high school to prepare me for Track and Softball and was formally introduced to Olympic Style Weightlifting mid-college when I met my former Coach Jinping Ma. With him I trained and competed at the National level for multiple years and was able to travel to China to train with the Beijing National team. While training I found a passion for coaching, obtained my MA degree in Kinesiology, and began working as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Northern Iowa. Weightlifting has forever changed my life and has rooted itself into my heart. It has allowed me to make many life long friends, introduced me to my husband, and lead me to Green Bay, WI. I joined CrossFit One Shot to find a new family to share my experiences with and to grow as an athlete. I now have two kids, Isla (4) and Bohdi (2), in which through each pregnancy I worked out with and once I was postpartum with my second, I found such a need for Pre and Postnatal care.
